We are a group of individuals who hail from some of the most remote villages. From childhood until now, when people ask us where we're from, we've never been able to name our native place—not because we're ashamed, but because no one has heard of it. We always say, "We're from 'abc,' which is ‘n’ kilometers from 'x' town." Years have passed, but our villages have remained unchanged.
Today, we all live in metro cities, and we've made these urban workplaces our new homes, but deep down, our roots are not here; what you see here are just the branches and fruits. For many of you, the story is the same, with only 'abc', ‘n’, and 'x' changing in the lines above. One thing brought us together under one roof: cinema. Each of us began a career in media—some in the mainstream, others in alternative media, and some in related fields. Whenever we watch a movie with a rural or tribal setting, it reminds us of our roots and our native places.
Many years ago, we wanted to do something for the villages we come from, but we lacked the courage and skills. It took us about eight years to bring courage, develop those skills and give shape to our vision of giving back to our native places. Over these years, our idea of working for our villages evolved into working for every village like ours—all our natives. Thus, Native Communities took shape, and when it came time to set up our office, we wanted to honor the ‘x’ that introduced our villages to the world, so we chose Vijayawada as our headquarters.
